Dennis and Edwin, childhood friends turned co-founders, launched Deed Technologies with a shared mission: to transform Kenya’s refurbished tech market by offering safe, fair, and supportive experiences for both customers and employees.
In an industry riddled with deception, such as resellers masking old machines as new, vanishing warranty support, and no accountability, Deed Technologies set out to do things differently. “We wanted to bring clarity, honesty, and education to every sale,” says Dennis. Every customer interaction is consultative, designed to align their needs with the right tech solution, backed by clear warranty terms and ethical practices.
Sinapis, which Dennis describes as “foundational,” helped guide the business’s journey toward becoming a protective force in the tech sector. Dennis started by joining the Sinapis Entrepreneur Academy, where he learned how to build structure, create systems, and lead with purpose. “I still use those materials
when dealing with HR or training my team,” he says.
From there, Dennis progressed through the Fast Track and Ascent programs, gaining exposure to investor pitching, board-level accountability, and a strong peer network. “Sinapis gave us the tools and the mindset to protect our people while scaling our mission.”
Over the years, Deed Technologies has built a strong team, with most members trained in-house. One standout success is Cynthia, who began as a cleaner and has grown into a skilled technician. “Everyone here is empowered to grow,” Dennis shares. Weekly training sessions build cross-functional skills
so each team member can support another. It’s a true culture of mutual protection.
When economic pressures due to COVID forced Deed to downsize a few years ago, Dennis and Edwin approached the challenge with grace by extending salaries, offering resume support, and praying over departing staff. “We never wanted to exploit or abandon anyone. These are lives, not just positions.”
Their protective ethos extends to schoolchildren across Kenya. Partnering with foundations, Deed Technologies refurbishes donated computers and delivers them with training and school-ready software. Over 1,500 students have benefited so far. A nonprofit arm is in the works to scale this effort.
Protection at Deed also means a commitment to preserving the environment. Every product Deed sells is carbon neutral. By refurbishing and extending the life of existing tech products, Deed is saving water, reducing carbon emissions, and avoiding the waste caused by these products ending up in a landfill.
From safeguarding customers to investing in people, Deed Technologies shows that business can be a calling. In a market filled with exploitation, Dennis and Edwin chose the narrow road of integrity. They proved that in the right hands, something as simple as a refurbished laptop can create lasting hope.
