Joseph Gichunge, Co-founder & CEO of Jazza Centre

Joseph Gichunge, the Co-founder & CEO of Jazza Centre, is the latest winner of our impact award. He has been in business for over 5 years. Here is what he had to share about his journey:

1. Please tell us a little about Jazza Centre.

Jazza Centre is an employee leasing/outsourcing company. It was founded in 2013 with a desire to fill the huge labor gap in the domestic services sector. Jazza Centre was mainly started to empower underprivileged women. A majority of these women are single mothers with challenging backgrounds. Many of them have experienced life hurdles such as early pregnancies, broken marriages and have often been left with the sole responsibility of taking care of their children. Jazza Centre gives them another chance at life by providing them with training, sustainable employment and a reliable source of income. Our terms and conditions are formulated to protect domestic workers and ensure they enjoy good working conditions. We recently introduced a corporate division to outsource employees to the corporate sector. This will help to broaden the scope of job opportunities for our beneficiaries.

2. What inspired you to start this business?

My wife and I encountered challenges with our nannies after the birth of our first born daughter 5 years ago. We kept changing our nannies in the hopes of getting the right one but ended up with the same results. After interacting with our friends, we realized that our problems were not only unique to us. Upon further research, we learnt that there was a huge disconnect between the demands an employer places upon the worker and the worker's ability to meet these demands. And this is how Jazza Centre was born, to bridge the huge labour gap.

3. What has been the biggest impact that the Sinapis Academy course has had on you or your business?

Sinapis Academy has really changed my perspective on how I view business processes, operations and very specifically, leadership. More importantly, I have learnt how to incorporate my Christian faith into my business. You can learn more about Jazza Centre on their website and Facebook page
